The keeper of timeless hours

December 2024, Single-channel experimental narrative video, 6:04

Résumé: Poetic exploration of the night as a living presence. Blending personal narrative with symbolic imagery, the video reflects on nightlife, urban transformation, and surveillance. A car ride through Montreal’s streets becomes a metaphor for reflection, nostalgia, and self-realization. It weaves personal memories about Montreal and the night with broader commentary on gentrification, police surveillance, and memory.

Themes: Night as persona, transformation, memory, performance, surveillance, gentrification, personal vs. public space, emotional realism, cities.

Effect : The video immerses viewers in a contemplative atmosphere. Its pacing and tone evoke late-night clarity, mixing melancholy, intimacy, and quiet revelation.

Goal : I wanted to capture the emotional texture of nighttime and prompt reflection on the nights emancipatory force, how it reveals time passing. I wanted to recognize the landscape and the land as alive, and to express a quiet love for Montreal.

Reflections : This project helped me grow in how I express emotion through editing and rhythm. It deepened my desire to focus on environments and their impact. I believe spaces hold memory and influence in ways we often overlook. I also became more aware of how sound design shapes emotional tone and the perception of time. In future iterations, I would like to incorporate archival or documentary footage to highlight the historical aspects, especially around gentrification.
