December 2024, interractive video installation
Components: Interactive installation (Max MSP, video comprised of edits made on photoshop using AI images and analog collages, resin 3D-printed dice, jewelry box mechanism, hidden camera, computer, projector, mirror)
Résumé:
DICE is an interactive installation exploring the pervasive influence of digital capitalism, algorithms and their effects on gender performance. A 3D-printed die meant to represent chance, manipulation, performance, rests atop a dismantled children’s jewelry box that plays music when lifted, evoking childhood nostalgia and early gendered conditioning. A slideshow of AI-generated, photoshopped magazine covers combining glossy femininity with uncanny digital surrealism plays on a screen. A hidden camera tracks the number of viewers and adjusts the slideshow speed, symbolizing the acceleration of influence and information overload in group settings. An AI voice reads theory on these topics, in a brainwashing tone to highlight social conditioning.

DICE asks the audience to question their relationship with media, beauty, and the meaning of freedom, exposing the illusions of choice and autonomy in digital life and critiquing the repackaging of femininity and gender roles as “empowerment” under capitalism. It explores how media creates echo chambers and manipulates behavior.
